Cache issues

Post by sexyboo »

Hi guys! It's been great to have LCP online and operational. It's encouraging me to search for those crazy hard finds which, in turn, is good for my body. Kudos to you!

Small problem; I noticed that the site logged all of my finds from October 8th but one, Dragoon Spring (GC1W2PT). Not sure what happened but the system seems to have skipped this one, which is a shame since it's worth points and was a totally cool place to adventure into. Is this a problem with other cachers?

It'll get to it within a week. Since we are limited in the # of requests we can make per account per day, we spread out the updates. What that means is that it doesn't matter which day you find a cache, it matters when we update that particular cache. So, some of the caches you found that day happened to update on day N whereas your other cache will update on day M.

For a discussion of how caches are updated on LonelyCache, I recommend reading the Cache Synchronization topic. It explains in more detail how caches are updated.

I have noticed a couple of caches that I found shortly before another team (e.g. Friday 1:05 PM, I found on a Saturday and Team opjim the next Monday). I and the other caching team have gotten the same number of points for the find. Shouldn't I get more points if I find it earlier? Is this a consequence of weekly updates?
Not a big deal, bringing it up wondering if it's a glitch, or do I misunderstand the process.

That is not the way it works. Everyone who finds a cache gets the same number of points regardless of when they found it. The more finders, the fewer the points. That is the point off this method, to recognize caches that are found less often and thus are worth more points.

Thanks, TheBlizzles. Team OPJim explained it to me as well. Hopefully I understand this now: the day I found the cache I did have more points, but when the next team found it, my points and everyone else's points decreased.

I'm glad you understand the scoring now. I'm hoping to add some knowledge books to the site that explain how all this works. There's a lot going on between the various leader boards and how they work isn't necessarily obvious.

Until then, there are a few topics in this forum where I discussed scoring and most of the various leader boards:

Calculating a Geocache's Score
Point Leader Boards
Back Country Leader Boards
