Group Events and Hunting Parties

Post by railroader921 »

From the Geocaching.com guidelines:

"An event cache should not be set up for the sole purpose of drawing together geocachers for an organized geocache search. Such group hunts are best organized using a discussion forum or an email distribution list."

If you are planning to go "hunting" and want invite others along, This thread would be for that.

The Hunt for Sunken Treasure

Post by railroader921 »

If I missed inviting you:

I sent out event invites from the UTAG page. We are going after "The Hunt For Sunken Treasure" By Fire Elemental on August 8th. Bfin and I worked on this particularly lonely puzzle for a month. It appeared that in order to solve it we would have to purchase a rare, out of print book, in order to solve it. I decided to contact Fire Elemental to find out if we were right and if maybe he had a copy that we could borrow. When I tracked him down on Facebook, he told me that I was looking in the wrong place again but that I was on the right track. With a little nudge and a poke I was able to find the necessary document required to solve the puzzle, but due to the website that published the document changing the html table that the document was in, thereby changing the structure of the paragraphs, the cipher no longer worked! We tried it backwards forwards sideways and a dozen other ways. So finally FE relented and gave us the coordinates to the next stage! They are up by Lake Blanche on the Mill B South Fork drainage, Big Cottonwood Canyon Utah. I made plans to go up there during my vacation week and Shawn (Fire Elemental) wants to go with me so we decided to hold an event cache to see if others wanted to go. It looks like there is going to be a good group of us! We are seriously going to lower the score on this cache but in my opinion that is what the rankings are all about. Getting out to the lonely caches and making them not so lonely, right?
Anyway, here are links to the event page and y'all are welcome to come if you can make it.

If looking for something on a web page, and that page has been changed, you might try web.archive.org (The Wayback Machine). If they pulled a page during the time that it had the info you are looking for, you might find it.
