Any thoughts or discussions about adding the Jem State to Lonely Cache of late? I have only found a few caches in ID myself and have a couple hides in the that State. It might be a good add for Lonely cache though. A lot of us would have to brace for the point drop in the overall LCP Stats if Idaho was added .. I think overall it would be a positive move from a LCP member standpoint.

It's tempting. I just checked and there are close to 21,000 caches currently in Idaho.

It's been a long time since I've done this, but a little after four years from going live, LonelyCache currently has 160,676 caches, 17,967,654 finds, and 331,123 geocachers. Nice!

So with that, LonelyCache would jump to 182K caches, and surpass 20 million finds. I suspect there wouldn't be a large increase in geocachers.

I'd have to get county definitions too. I think I have them somewhere already.

I'm not sure how LonelyCache stands with respect to resource consumption on the web hosting company. I'd have to check on that.

It is tempting though.

I agree with the dawg. Idaho would be a great add though it makes more work for Russell.

Okay, I've been looking at this yesterday and today. I decided that if I add Idaho, I will first add Montana. I have put together the county polygons for both states and created a script to turn on Montana. I was getting ready to turn Montana on when I stopped to look at the numbers:

In not quite three months since my last update, LonelyCache currently has 166,678 caches, 18,467,186 finds, and 337,980 geocachers.

Idaho currently has 20,457 caches and Montana has 7958. If I add Montana, LonelyCache will have 174,636 geocaches. With both, LonelyCache will have 195,093 geocaches.

That's all fine, I think. That's why I want to turn on Montana first and see how things go.

The current issue that is holding me up is as follows: LonelyCache is set to update every cache weekly. LonelyCache utilizes four premium accounts to do this. At 6,000 caches per day, four accounts can update 168,000 caches a week. It can actually update much more with the same four accounts, but it is much less efficient once an account has utilized its 6,000 daily caches. So, LonelyCache is right on the cusp of needing a fifth account and will definitely need one to expand and it wouldn't hurt to use a fifth account now.

Okay, I decided to bite the bullet and included Montana in LonelyCache. I know that isn't Idaho, but I think it's a good step in that direction. It will take about a week for all the Montana caches to get added to LonelyCache. Things will appear funky until that completes. Once that completes, I want to monitor things for a bit, then check with the web hosting company to get the okay to proceed with Idaho.

So... I just got the green light from the web hosting company to add Idaho.
I'll turn things on later today. As with Montana, Idaho caches will be added over this coming week.
