What gets updated?

Post by lv2wj »

We come onto the site occasionally - since we're nowhere near the top of any of the lists - it's not a high priority. But, we found 2 caches in Millard Co, Utah yesterday that hadn't been found for 2 years, only a few finds and fairly high difficulty rating, (GC277J2, GC277JB) but they weren't even listed on the Millard County page list of recent finds, even though site says it was updated this morning. So just curious how those get updated. Thanks for all the VERY HARD WORK that goes into maintaining this site. It's fun to see familiar and some not so familiar names on the lists.

Your finds will show up on the lists and stats pages within a few days, no more than a week. The "updated this morning" refers to when all the statistics (Point Values, Rankings, etc.) were re-computed. Because of the huge number of caches in the LonelyCache region, it's just not possible to get every new Found It log from every cache in 5 states everyday. But the Pocket Queries and logic for directly downloading logs are designed such that every active cache will be checked every week. Corfman Clan, the proprietor of this fine establishment, has hinted that in the future we may have the capability to have our own (registered members') recent logs automatically downloaded to the site when we visit it. Then we'd just have to wait for the next update cycle (the following morning, or perhaps sooner) to see the change.

Hope that helps! :D

Rocketsciguy gave a good summary of how things work. If you look at the LonelyCache page for each of the caches, you can see when they were last updated. Your find should be added shortly after a week from that date and possibly sooner depending on if a PQ runs earlier that includes either of those caches.
  • Devil's Bedroom - Last Update: November 20, 2012 6:45 PM
  • Devil's Bathroom - Last Update: November 21, 2012 1:11 PM
It's good to see you cleaned up the Devil's house, it sure needed it

You're welcome and also welcome to LonelyCache.

Now that you're a member of the LonelyCache forum, I recommend that you also register on the LonelyCache website. Just click on the Log In link to the upper right and then the Registration link.

There are some advantages to being registered and logged in:
  • Your name is highlighted in any lists it appears in.
  • All caches you own or found are highlighted in any lists they appear in.
  • When searching for nearby caches, you can filter out owned and found caches.
  • You can set the time zone to where you are located so any displayed times will be local to you.
  • As rocketsciguy mentioned, once implemented, your recent finds will be automatically downloaded when you visit the site.
  • Plus more member features are planned.
