Site Update Nov. 25, 2012

Post by Corfman Clan »

Just a week since the last update and here's another.

This time we have added links from both the home page and the region pages to the longest unfound caches and to the caches that haven't been visited for the longest time (longest alone). These links are at the bottom of The Loneliest by Cache Type table.

We have also updated the TopCaches page to manage not only the top loneliest caches, but also the loneliest unfound and the longest alone. Along with that, the page will now show both the current cache points (cCPs) and the next find cache points (nfCPs) when they differ.

Note: For some reason, the database query that selects the longest alone caches seems to take a lot longer to run when initiated from the website than when I initiate the query directly. When I first updated the site, the query was timing out (taking longer than 30 seconds) most all the time, so I upped the timeout value to 60 seconds. The query seems to always return results now, but seems to take around 35-40 seconds to run, so be patient when you click on a Longest Alone link. We had a problem like this before when selecting a cacher's list of backcountry caches that was solved by rearranging the query. I hope we'll be able to rearrange the Longest Alone query to speed things up too.

In addition to the above, the site has been updated to implement the tiered approach to selecting a geocacher's Owner Find Accolades (more info)
